The Tom Hanks movie Cast Away was released on 22nd December 2000. The movie tells the story of a Fed-Ex employee who finds himself on an uninhabited Island in the South Pacific after his plane crashes, and his struggle to survive. The movie grossed over $400 million USD worldwide. Shooting of the movie took place between 1998 & 2000 but it was not shot consecutively. Tom Hanks gained around 50 pounds pre-production and then after a majority of the film was shot, production was stopped for a year so that he could lose the weight and grow his hair and beard. In the movie, Wilson the volleyball becomes Chuck Noland's (Tom Hanks) only companion during the 4 years he is on the deserted Island. It is said that one of the original volleyball props was sold at auction for $18,500 USD to the ex-CEO of Fed-Ex. Why are well telling you this information?
